    Corey

That is has taken 254 posts on this thread (and almost 3000 posts from Helene) to get this response from you is perhaps sillier.

There were some pragmatic ideas presented in this thread to increase the ability for Forum “self-organizing” (which has it’s obvious limitations vis-à-vis the existing structure) and thereby reduce the burden placed on you and staff related to upkeep.  The hopes were also that implementing some minor website (structural) changes would enhance the ability for content to align with the intent of the Forum and allow a new, improved dynamic to evolve.

Let's see if your "stern talking to" works or there continues to be what is obviously a problem (or if Yotam can get the job done).  I hope this doesn't become a missed opportunity for improvement.

    inmanagingeditor:

Okay, this is getting silly.  That mine is the 254th response in this thread, is outright ridiculous.  I really wanted to keep some distance from this and let y'all work this out for yourselves (for your sake and for mine... i'd like you guys to be allowed to self-organize as much as possible, not to mention that i am just one of about 1.5 people responsible for keeping IN alive)

Yes Corey it’s silly.  Glad you noticed that.  And nice of you to once again put it off on the silliness of the disorganized community members hamstrung by forum software that doesn’t even include something as basic as polling, let alone a halfway sophisticated rating system.  Makes me wonder just what you had in mind when you say you'd like to see us “self-organize”?  Like how fer instance?  And then to berate us for the lengthy thread discussing the dilemma…what else does one do in this forum but post?  If there’s no software resources for settling social problems, what do we do but post?  Use your head Corey!

BTW – your links to the 1st forum are all deadsters.

Love you too Bro. Stick out tongue [:P]  Sad to see you get heat whenever you take time out of your obviously busy workload to engage, but there it is.

Re: Banish Helene to 7th Circle for Spamming, Please

    Hi Corey

Thanks for responding and for pointing out the report abuse feature.

I'd like to take the opportunity to ask some clarifying questions about deleted posts: first off, will the person whose post is deleted be automatically notified of the deletion?  In the last iteration of the software (forum #2) the software was supposed to automatically notify people if their post was deleted; when doing so, we (facilitators) had to state why - and that message would go to the person whose post was deleted.  (NOTE: this only happened in cases of duplicate posts, by request of the forum member who wrote the post, or in extreme cases - think hardcore pornography.)  However, it seems that feature of the software wasn't working, because when one of Feral's posts was deleted by entities or processes unknown (not one of the facilitators) she didn't get notification - she discovered this by chance when she saw it in the "deleted posts" section of the facilitator sub-forum.

Which brings me to the second point: in the last forum, people with facilitator status had access to a subforum called "deleted posts" which provided a sort of "oversight" - any of the facilitators, or staff with higher system access I'm sure, would have access to that section.  (Oversight: e.g. if a software glitch happens or a post is deleted by accident, someone would be more likely to notice...we all know overworked I-I staff don't have time to meticulously monitor this crazy monkey house.)  Will some provision such as this occur in the new forum?

So I'm wondering in general what the relevant setup is in the new forum. It seems critical to me that if someone's post is deleted, they know about it (and have a copy of the deleted post).  They could then duplicate it in the Seventh Circle (with optional outraged commentary Stick out tongue [:P]) if desired.

    spiral on,

    arthur

p.s. I'm sure people will be curious about what post got deleted; it was quite innocuous; here's a snippet from a private (facilitator section) post about it on August 18/06:

    Hi Corey

I discovered recently that a post Feral wrote in the second IN forum was deleted not long before the transition to this forum - none of the facilitators there deleted it, nor did she, and she - as the poster of the "offending" post - was not informed that it was deleted; she only found out by seeing it in the "deleted posts" section.

Here is the deleted post in its entirety:

Caprophogy is eating shit. You can't find it even if you google, but look it up in the OED. Great word.

The only reason you can't find it on google is because it is spelled wrong...it's copraphagy or coprophagy...

and epicac is actually spelled "Ipecac"...you know...that syrup that makes you puke...(sorry, I mean "induces vomiting)

Re: Banish Helene to 7th Circle for Spamming, Please

    Hi David,

Sorry for the tardiness in getting back to you, been busy.

    Davidd:
But you're spot on with your point, Michael:  a community would generally be unable to distinguish a prelaw from a translaw, because of the inability of lower levels of consciousness to comprehend higher.  Apart from Jesus's reception by HIS community, Wilber's more mundane examples are relevant - the 60's counter-culture translaws were resisted and then in turn resist integral... So, Arthur, your question is unanswerable:  Helen's approach may be a radical post-post-modernist method of engaging in internet discourse (replacing engagement with soliloquy?), and our tedious back and forth-ing may turn out to be obsolete...  How would we know?

btw Michael, I picked up a copy of Lila from the bookstore on my way home today... Obviously I wasn't ready for it the first time round.

The book Lila may be something of a letdown for you, it has been overshadowed by Wilber and other giants in the field since it was written, but it does have its value nonetheless…and the fictional character "Lila" has a certain abstractedly reminiscent quality to another fictional character we all know and um…love (to hate) name of Helene.

Speaking of self-organization… I happened to be listening a few minutes ago to the latest Shift in Action teleconference dialog with Anodea Judith - as part of my work.  She was all over this dynamic/static quality dichotomy and mentioned Erich Jantsch in that regard, who makes the point by means of “Novelty and Confirmation” .

Back to Helene.  Seems like we’ve done a good job of outlining why her posts are disruptive, but now I’d like to say a few words about how I appreciate her posts.  I like the way she annoys me and other people around here.  She stirs the pot like no one else I’ve seen, though Pi and Mik certainly had their inimitable styles… Helene annoys in a more conducive way I think though…

Why do I think it’s a good thing to be annoyed by her?  Because it provides the opportunity to investigate my investments, and it helps me see others more clearly.  Does that by triggering us, so that I get to observe and compare reactions.  Not to be judging others or myself, but simply to get to know and appreciate and empathize better.

She can also sow confusion in the ranks.  Such as with the pre/trans precept.  Confusion can be a good thing IMO, in the right context…helps shake loose dogmatic certitudes and suchlike.

I also like Helene for her unstoppable unreserved zaniness.  Party!!! [<:o)]

But if it was possible to vote on the question at issue, I believe I’d still vote to have her exiled to Dante’s Seventh Circle.  So there it is…

Hence the excellent suggestion to simply focus on her posts that are disruptive via the abuse button, while leaving the ones we like to have around to keep the light zaniness alive.

Thanks to everyone for your contributions to this thread. I thought it was wonderfully productive and a great exercise.

Helen, it would be SO worth it to see what you look like that I'd give permission for him to kiss you in a second-if he needed my permission. Watching him like a hawk? Hmm...

Are you a witch? Which witch are you? Wiccans are witches, which means you might be Wiccan, but I guess you could be another kind of witch, which just isn't Wiccan because I'm not sure which witches are Wiccan and which witches are not.

oh gawed, don't remind of dead birds..hanging laundry out to dry, the line seemed stuck , so i gave it a tug and then i heard them! horrid cries!  three sparrows (or a cheekade?-been a while) flupping around at the far end of the line (which was attached to the tree) .. feathers still floating down..not like i didn't want to cry all day, but the worst of it was the one (his/her mate i pressumed) was still hanging  around in same spot, a couples of hours later.

which witch am i?...hard to tell, maybe a 'shape-shifter-one?'.....i did, many moons ago, in my spirtual-exploration years   met a bunch of Wiccan's (for a spell of one fall-season)  at the local universtity's evening 'interset groups' and thought they were very, very  kewl...'we givadamn about the plantes future and healing of our minds' - was the vibe...besides, by then i was jiving in-same-grove, and was glad to see there are smart people (some w/phd's i pressumed) who wanted to share their gnowing-wisdom.

talking pre-reiKI years..even had sev. spiritually-oriented after-affects experinces, which convinced me beyond mere belief ::  'there's something to meeting in groups -an energy thing /transmission in company with like-minded folks'.

example? from journal:: oct 30/92'  went to Wican meeting - following morning 31st  ... in a restaurant like setting. candle-lit room ...."almost empty except for a few individuals . there was a sense of celebration. the only light source several candles. i was just abserving. next thing i knew i felt a tinglling, vibrating , quite loud beam of Energy  ingraving a luminous, silvery - white disc shape into the crown chakra. it was physical! physical sensation! while that was going on i kept thinking "Isn't this amazing i'm not even asleep!"

So, Helen, who is this Gordon guy?

Helene Forms; Gordon Becomes Category 3
    By Associated Press

MIAMI - Tropical Storm Helene developed from a tropical depression over the open Atlantic late Wednesday, while Hurricane Gordon strengthened into a powerful Category 3 hurricane, forecasters said.

Helene had top sustained winds near 40 mph, just above the 39-mph threshold for a tropical storm. It was the eighth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.

At 11 p.m. EDT, it was located 565 miles west of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands and moving west-northwest at 22 mph, forecasters said.

Gordon became a major hurricane when its top sustained winds jumped to 120 mph, up from 110 mph earlier in the day, forecasters said.

It was moving out to sea and no threat to land, forecasters said.

Sorry if this observation causes a predictable regression!
